Gin Basil Smash | Cocktail-Rezept

Gin Basil Smash

Are you still looking for a lively companion for mild summer nights? Then you should try the Gin Basil Smash. At twelve years old, the gin drink is still considered a newbie among cocktails. But that didn't stop him from achieving cult status and conquering the entire world and our hearts from a Hamburg bar.

Okay, admittedly: Smash doesn't sound very affectionate. Rather a little bit violent. But it's the rough treatment of the basil with the mortar that gives this refreshing summer drink its aroma. So don't be shy when pressing the leaves!

The Gin Basil Smash not only owes its uniquely fresh taste to the basil, but also its green color. This makes the drink a real eye-catcher! The finely tuned overall package with juniper and lemon notes also makes an excellent aperitif before dinner. Effort: hardly worth mentioning. You mixed the Gin Basil Smash in just a few minutes. Just follow our step-by-step recipe.

You need this:

  • 6 cl gin

  • 2 cl lemon juice

  • 10 basil leaves

  • 2 cl sugar syrup

  • Ice cubes

It's that easy:

  1. Lightly crush the basil leaves in a cocktail shaker with a mortar

  2. Add all other ingredients and shake well

  3. Fill a glass with ice cubes

  4. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve into the glass

  5. Decorate with 2-3 basil leaves

Tip : Serve the Gin Basil Smash in a tumbler, i.e. a short glass with a thick bottom. If you don't have one at home, you can also use a simple water glass.

Simply grow your own basil

Have you got a taste for it? Then it's worth always having a large pot of basil at home. Unfortunately, the ones you buy from the supermarket only last semi-well. Basil grown from seeds is much more resilient and long-lasting. You really don't need a green thumb for this, just good seeds (make sure they are organic!), a pot with soil, a sunny location and 3 seconds each day to water. After just two weeks you can look forward to a productive basil bush.
