Mexican Beer Cocktail for Father's Day

flsk-magazin-mexican-beer-cocktail

Father's Day is associated with many clichés – groups of men and copious amounts of beer are just a few. But today, we're turning our attention to those who truly deserve the title of father . Those who change diapers at three in the morning, dry tears, and chase monsters away from under the bed, repair Lego castles, answer questions – and sometimes just be there.

We have a special idea for you to creatively celebrate Father's Day—or rather, toast it. Our Mexican Beer Cocktail is a tribute to you. Beer plays the main role, of course. But it also has notes of salsa, a hint of BBQ, and plenty of character.

Does a drink made with beer, chili, and tomato juice sound a little strange? Mexicans are crazy about it! Numerous variations of this beer cocktail are circulating throughout the country, and for good reason: It's refreshing, spicy, and uplifting. If you're wondering whether you can simply leave out the salt and spice rim, don't. Like the Bloody Mary, it's simply part of the all-round experience.

What you need (for 1 serving):

For the cocktail:

    • 1 bottle (approx. 300 ml) of Mexican lager beer (e.g. Corona)

    • 3 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice

    • 1 tbsp tomato juice

    • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

    • 1 tsp hot chili sauce

    • ice cubes

For the glass rim:

    • 1–2 tsp BBQ or Cajun seasoning mix (or homemade with paprika, pepper, garlic, salt, etc.)

    • 1 tsp chili powder

    • 1 tsp celery salt

    • 1 lime wedge

It's that easy:

    • Mix the spice mix, chili powder, and celery salt on a plate and spread evenly. Cut a lime wedge and rub it onto the rim of a glass. Then press the rim of the glass into the spice mix until it is evenly coated.

    • Mix lime juice, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce and chili sauce directly in the glass.

    • Fill the glass with ice, slowly add the beer and stir gently.
